How Students Sign In

The student sign-in flow on iPad: email plus one-time code.

Students sign into Scribble on iPad with their own email and a one-time code sent to that email. There's no password to remember.

The student flow

  1. Open Scribble on iPad. The sign-in screen appears.
  2. Enter the student's email address.
  3. Tap Send code. Scribble emails a 6-digit code to that address.
  4. The student opens their email, copies the 6-digit code, and enters it in Scribble.
  5. Scribble loads their profile and they're ready to practice.

Codes are short-lived

A one-time code is valid for a short window. If it expires before the student enters it, tap Send a new code. Old codes stop working — don't try to reuse them.

Students stay signed in

Once a student signs in, they stay signed in on that iPad. They won't need a code every day — only when:

  • They sign out manually.
  • A teacher or admin signs them out from the dashboard.
  • They sign in on a different iPad (the old iPad signs them out).

One iPad at a time

A student can only be signed in on one iPad at a time. If they sign in on a new iPad, the old one signs them out automatically. This keeps progress in one place.

What if a student doesn't have an email?

Every student needs an email to receive codes. Most schools issue one. If a student doesn't have one yet, work with IT before rolling out Scribble.

What if a student can't access their email on the iPad?

Email and Scribble don't need to be on the same device. The student can read the code on a phone, a computer, or wherever their email is — then type it into the iPad.

When sign-in fails

The most common reasons sign-in fails:

  • The student typed the wrong email.
  • The code expired — request a new one.
  • The student tried to reuse an old code.
  • The email isn't on the school's roster yet — check Students in the dashboard.
