Sign in with Timeback

At Alpha schools, students sign into Scribble using Timeback SSO. For student accounts on Timeback, the sign-in popup continues through Google. There is no Scribble one-time code and no separate Scribble password.

The student flow

1. Open Scribble on iPad.
2. Enter the student's Timeback email.
3. Tap Login.
4. When the sign-in popup opens, tap Continue.
5. Tap Continue with Google.
6. Enter the student's Google password and finish any Google prompts.
7. Scribble opens the student's profile.

If the student has already finished setup, they go to the home page. On a first login, Scribble asks them to choose an avatar and handedness before sending them to the home page.

The student stays signed in until they sign out, an adult signs them out from the dashboard, or they sign in on a different iPad.

One iPad at a time

A student can be signed in on one iPad at a time. Signing in on a new iPad signs them out of the old one. See One active session.

If Timeback is down

If Timeback or Google sign-in is unavailable, Scribble can't sign new students in. There is no fallback OTP path at Alpha schools. Already-signed-in students keep working normally; only fresh sign-ins are blocked.

In practice, students rarely need to sign in fresh. Once they're on their assigned iPad, they stay signed in.

What if a student's Timeback account is new?

The Scribble profile only appears after the student exists in Timeback and the roster has synced. Sync runs continuously, so this is usually a matter of minutes after a new Timeback student is created.

If a new student tries to sign in before sync has caught up, they'll see a sign-in error. Wait a few minutes and try again.
