Privacy and Child Data

What Scribble stores about a student, who can see it, and how to request deletion.

Scribble works with student data. Here is what we collect, what we do with it, who can see it, and how to remove it.

What we store

For each student profile:

  • First name (last name optional, depending on org).
  • Email (for sign-in — at non-Alpha schools and through the family adult's email for families).
  • Handwriting attempts — the actual strokes the student wrote, used to score legibility and speed.
  • Curriculum state — which lessons and reviews have been completed.
  • XP, streaks, and daily goal history.
  • Activity results from required activities and games.

What we don't store

  • We do not collect the student's location.
  • We do not collect identifiers from the iPad beyond what's needed for sign-in.
  • We do not track the student outside Scribble.
  • We do not sell or share student data with advertisers.

Who can see student data

  • The student themselves, on iPad.
  • Adults in the same organization who are an owner or admin. In a family, that's parents and any invited co-parents. In a school, that's the staff with dashboard access.
  • Scribble support staff, on a need-to-know basis, when investigating support requests.

How to request deletion

Two paths:

  • Delete a student profile from the dashboard. This removes the student's learning history. See Archiving and deleting students.
  • Full account deletion. Email support@usescribble.com from the address on the account. We'll delete every profile under the account and confirm in writing.

If you're a parent asking to delete a child's data at a school, contact the school. The school owns the organization and the data.

Data retention after access ends

When a student's paid access ends, the student's data is retained for a grace period in case you buy access again. After the grace period, archived data may be purged. If you want it kept longer, contact us before the grace period ends.

Children's privacy

Scribble is built for children five and older. We collect the minimum data needed to deliver the curriculum and report progress to the adults responsible for the child.

For specific compliance details (COPPA, FERPA, GDPR-K), contact support@usescribble.com and we'll provide our current documentation.
