Adjusting Student Settings

What staff can change per student: daily XP goal and a few other tweaks. What they can't change, and why.

Most of what Scribble does is fixed — the curriculum, the XP rules, the legibility scoring. A small set of settings can be adjusted per student. This page covers what those are and how to change them.

Daily XP goal

The daily XP goal is how much XP a student needs to earn in a day to hit their goal. Hitting the goal extends their streak.

  • The school sets a default daily goal that applies to every student.
  • Each student can have their own override that takes precedence over the default.

To set the school default, go to Settings → Daily XP goal.

To override for one student, open Students → [student] → Settings → Daily XP goal.

Be careful raising goals

A daily goal that's too high turns practice into a slog and breaks streaks. Start near the default and only raise it for students who are clearly under-challenged.

Goal days vs non-goal days

A streak only breaks on a goal day that the student misses. Non-goal days are days off — students can skip them without breaking their streak.

By default, every day is a goal day. If your school doesn't expect practice on weekends, set weekends as non-goal days from Settings → Practice days.

See Daily goal & streaks for the full rules.

What staff cannot change

These are server-owned and reflect real student work. They aren't editable from the dashboard:

  • XP totals — the sum of what the student actually earned.
  • Streak length — derived from past goal-day performance.
  • Curriculum position — what the student is working on now.
  • Legibility scores — derived from actual writing.
  • LPM — derived from actual writing.

If you believe one of these is wrong, see Progress looks wrong.

What staff cannot do

  • Sign in as a student. Each student needs their own email.
  • Change the curriculum a student receives. Curriculum is delivered by the server; everyone gets the same canonical curriculum.
