Curriculum Content Types

The seven types of content a student encounters in the Scribble curriculum and what each one does.

The Scribble curriculum is built from seven kinds of content. Each kind has a specific role. Knowing which is which makes the dashboard easier to read.

Lesson

The core unit of cursive practice. A lesson focuses on a specific letter, stroke, or word and asks the student to write it repeatedly.

  • Awards XP: yes, as best-run delta — only the amount over the prior best run.
  • Completes a curriculum entry: yes.
  • Extends streak: yes, if the student hits the daily XP goal on a goal day.
  • Replay-able: yes, with delta XP.

Review

A review revisits letters or words from earlier lessons to keep them sharp. The curriculum interleaves reviews with new content automatically.

  • Awards XP: yes, best-run delta.
  • Completes a curriculum entry: yes.
  • Extends streak: yes.
  • Replay-able: yes, with delta XP.

Warmup

A short daily activity to get the hand moving before the main session. Designed to be done once per day.

  • Awards XP: yes, once per day. The first warmup of the day awards the fixed XP; subsequent warmups that day award nothing.
  • Completes a curriculum entry: no.
  • Extends streak: yes, the XP counts toward the daily goal.
  • Replay-able: yes, but no extra XP.

Unit Intro

A gateway step at the start of a new unit. Often a short orientation to what's coming.

  • Awards XP: yes, fixed completion XP. Once per content.
  • Completes a curriculum entry: yes.
  • Extends streak: yes.
  • Replay-able: yes, but no XP on replay.

Intro Lesson

The first lesson of a unit. Slightly different shape from a regular lesson — designed to introduce a new concept.

  • Awards XP: yes, fixed completion XP. Once per content.
  • Completes a curriculum entry: yes.
  • Extends streak: yes.
  • Replay-able: yes, no XP on replay.

Assessment

A unit-end check. Asks the student to write a row of mixed letters and scores legibility and speed.

  • Awards XP: yes, fixed completion XP. Once per content.
  • Completes a curriculum entry: yes.
  • Extends streak: yes.
  • Replay-able: yes, no XP on replay.

Required Activity

A specific automaticity drill or application game that's required for curriculum progression.

  • Awards XP: yes, fixed completion XP. Once per content.
  • Completes a curriculum entry: yes.
  • Extends streak: yes.
  • Replay-able: yes, no XP on replay.

How they fit together

A typical day:

  1. Warmup to get the hand moving.
  2. One or two lessons of new content.
  3. An interleaved review of earlier material.
  4. Occasionally a unit intro, assessment, or required activity when the curriculum hits one.

The curriculum decides the order. Students don't pick what to practice next; the server delivers the next piece of content based on what they've completed.
