Roster & Profile Management

Create, archive, and unarchive student profiles. How seat limits work in a school account.

Non-Alpha school student profiles are created and managed in the web dashboard. The iPad app is for students; staff don't add or edit students from iPad.

Creating a student profile

  1. Sign into the dashboard as an owner or admin.
  2. Open Students → Add student.
  3. Enter the student's first name, last name, and the email address they will use to sign in on iPad.
  4. Save. The profile is ready to use immediately.

Each student needs a unique email

The student's email is how they receive their one-time sign-in codes. Schools often issue students a school-managed email (e.g. firstname.lastname@school.org). If a student doesn't have one, ask your IT team to create one before adding them to Scribble.

How seats work

Each non-archived student profile uses one seat. Staff accounts do not use seats.

  • Adding a student fails if you've hit your seat limit. Contact us to expand the limit.
  • Archiving a student frees their seat. You can add another student to take their place.
  • Unarchiving an archived student consumes a seat again (and fails if you're at the limit).

Archiving a student

When a student leaves the program — moves to a new school, graduates, or stops practicing — archive their profile.

Archiving:

  • Ends the student's iPad access immediately.
  • Keeps their full learning history, in case they come back.
  • Frees their seat so another student can use it.

Find the student under Students, open their profile, and tap Archive.

Unarchiving a student

To bring back an archived student, open Students → Archived, find them, and tap Unarchive. Their progress picks up where it left off.

Deleting a student

Deleting is permanent and removes the student's learning history. Use archive unless you really need to delete. Deletes happen from the same student page.

Bulk imports

Need to add a whole class at once? Contact support@usescribble.com — we can run a bulk import from a CSV.
