Classroom Rollout

Plan a smooth first day with a whole class: hardware, sign-in logistics, and what to do if something breaks.

Rolling Scribble out to a classroom for the first time is mostly about logistics. The app itself is straightforward — the friction is hardware setup and email delivery.

A week before Day 1

  1. Add every student to the dashboard with their school email. See Roster & profile management.
  2. Confirm every student can receive email on a school-managed inbox. This is the most common Day-1 blocker.
  3. Unbox and pair every iPad. See iPad & Pencil setup.
  4. Install Scribble on every iPad using the download link we emailed you.
  5. Charge every iPad and Pencil. Plan for a top-up charge the night before.

The day of

  1. Set out the iPads with Pencils attached. Make sure each Pencil is charged — the iPad shows the Pencil battery briefly when attached.
  2. Walk the class through sign-in once before handing iPads out. Show one student doing it on the projector.
  3. Hand iPads out. Students enter their own email and the code that arrives.
  4. Float and unblock. Expect a few students to mistype an email or miss the spam folder. Help them find the code email.
  5. Let the app run the session. Don't talk over it — the in-app instructions are written for this age.

Common Day-1 issues

Codes not arriving

If multiple students aren't getting codes, the most likely cause is the school's email filter rejecting support@usescribble.com. Ask IT to allowlist that sender before Day 1.

Pencil not charging

The Apple Pencil Pro will not charge if the grip is still on. Slide the grip off, snap the Pencil onto the iPad with the tip facing away from the power button, and you'll see the battery level appear.

Screen feels weird

Students may notice the screen feels textured. That's the paper-feel screen protector working as intended — it makes the Pencil feel like pen on paper. Leave it on.

After Day 1

Once students are signed in on their iPads, daily practice doesn't need email codes again unless they're signed out. Just hand out the iPads, students pick up where they left off.
